The organisers of LNG 16 place great importance on the security and well-being of all participating persons. Detailed security planning for LNG 16 is well underway and will continue up to and throughout the event, benefitting from the specialist knowledge of the local authorities in Oran.
In-depth audits have been performed by international consultants and relevant stakeholders have agreed to a coordinated approach, based on the concept of a unified security management strategy which complements shared objectives whilst at the same time identifying appropriate standards and procedures.
Naturally, the local authorities will be responsible for all elements of safety and security within Oran and surrounding areas. As organisers of the LNG 16 Conference, ITE will be involved in all aspects relating to the internal operations of the Oran Convention Centre; the official LNG 16 venue.
General information relating to specific areas of interest appears below.
Oran Convention Centre
The state-of-the-art convention centre is destined to be the largest and most important conference venue on the African continent. Detailed planning is well underway in order to ensure the venue’s physical integrity as well as the safety and security of its internal operations. Thorough measures will be in place for the duration of LNG 16 in order to certify that only persons and vehicles associated with the event obtain access to its interior.
Security enforcement will be in the form of both human and technical resources which will closely monitor and control access to the venue’s perimeter, the conference and exhibition buildings and Le Méridien Hotel.
The local authorities will coordinate all aspects of security in the vicinity of the Convention Centre to include the monitoring of access roads and close supervision of all transportation to and from the venue. A prominent security presence within the venue itself as well as responsible planning on the part of the organisers will do much to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
Accommodation & Port of Oran
The details of official LNG 16 hotels are listed on the event website. The local authorities have provided assurances that adequate access control and additional security measures will be in place over the course of the event in order to ensure the safety of all guests.
Security in and around the Port of Oran, where the cruise ships Grand Celebration and Grand Voyager will berth, is naturally high and an increased presence is anticipated for the duration of LNG 16.
Access to the Port of Oran will be coordinated by the Police aux Frontiers, Port Authorities, Algerian Customs and a number of other bodies. Only persons and vehicles with appropriate identification or those which have undergone the corresponding security checks will be granted access to its inner perimeter. The cruise ships themselves have well established procedures for controlling access and the ship security officers will be on hand to promote a safe environment and adequate standards of health and safety.
LNG 16 personnel will be situated at information desks in the lobby areas of each official hotel or ship in order to provide assistance to guests as required.
Transport
A secure shuttle service will operate between Oran Es Senia Airport, official hotels, the Port and the Convention Centre from 15 - 22 April and bus routes will be monitored by the local authorities. The cost of using this service is included in the Delegate registration fee. Exhibitors may book this service in advance. For further details, please visit the “Planning Your Trip” section of the LNG 16 website which can be found at: www.lng16.org
Those who wish may also arrange private transportation (details on the LNG 16 website).
If you plan to make arrangements for a secure meet-and-greet and escort service, please contact the organisers on the below email address so that details may be passed on to the authorities. This is in order to ensure that your vehicles are granted access to the venue and other relevant areas such as the Port, should you opt to stay aboard one of the ships.
Medical Facilities
The LNG 16 organisers are working closely with the local authorities in order to ensure that adequate medical cover is available during the event. Medical facilities will be on hand at the Convention Centre, Port and Airport and local hospitals will be on stand-by to provide assistance if necessary. The full list of LNG 16 hotels and associated venues has been forwarded to the emergency services in order to assist them with their planning.
General aspects of health and safety are being monitored by the Ministere de la Sante de la Population et de la Reforme Hospitaliere.
Security of Exhibitor Freight
The term ‘freight’ is used to designate any bulk materials brought into the event space by exhibitors, including stands, additional furniture and promotional items.
The LNG 16 Conference organisers are working closely with the exhibition management company, ETF, on matters relating to freight security. Procedures will be in place to ensure that freight is secured upon arrival in Algeria and to facilitate secure transfer to the CCO. All materials entering the venue will be subject to verification.
